True Sport Strategy

The Strategy represents the federal, provincial and territorial governments' joint policy to address emerging and fundamental issues relating to ethical conduct in sport. The Federal-Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for sport, recreation and fitness endorsed the Strategy's Policy Framework and Action Plan in April 2002 and February 2003 respectively.

The Strategy is part of the True Sport Movement, which focuses attention on the power of values-based sport.

London Declaration
The London Declaration (2002) is meant to serve as the foundation for developing a comprehensive Strategy to foster, promote and ensure a fair and ethical sport environment. The Declaration describes the desired state of sport in Canada by 2012 resulting from the implementation of initiatives over a 10 year period.

Action Plan
The Strategy’s Action Plan describes the means and manner by which the Canadian Strategy for Ethical Conduct in Sport will be implemented. It is guided by the Policy Framework of the Canadian Strategy for the Ethical Conduct in Sport, which was adopted by Federal-Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for sport, fitness and recreation in 2002.

Policy Framework
The Strategy’s Policy Framework describes the desired outcomes of the Strategy, its various components and its means of implementation. With its vision statement, goals and objectives, the Framework constitutes a unified policy on ethical issues in sport. By endorsing this Framework, Federal-Provincial/Territorial governments have made the True Sport Strategy their way to address fundamental and emerging issues concerning ethical conduct in sport.
